New Admin Proposal: How About a Pay Cut?
In July 2025, the administration of Edmonds College asked to re-bargain the MOU that covered the distribution of high-demand salary enhancements to faculty that was signed in April. The first bargaining session was held on August 13. And now, ten weeks later, we have their first proposal. And after all of that time, it sounds like their offer is: what if we gave faculty a pay cut?
Here’s what the administration proposed. Edmonds College received $680,000 from the state of Washington to pay for high-demand salary enhancements in accordance with the Workforce Education Investment Act (WEIA). The administration of Edmonds College wants to keep one-third of that money, $230,000, for themselves. That means that the over 174 faculty members who are due that money from the state will be taking a pay cut.
Meanwhile, Dr. Singh made $341,300 in 2024 and his pay continues to rise each year. Our Vice-President of Instruction, Dr. Chapman made $170,900 in 2024 and her salary has not decreased. We never seem to see any pay cuts from the administration of the college, but they certainly seem comfortable with asking the faculty to take one!
Hands Off High Demand!
Let’s be real clear about this. The state gave Edmonds College money to pay faculty salaries and the administration wants to keep it for themselves. They want to violate the legislative intent of the WEIA and cut the salary of faculty all so they can keep $230,000, which is a small drop in the very large bucket that is their operating budget. They are asking for one-third of our high-demand salary enhancements today so that they can try to keep all of them tomorrow. Now is the time to tell Dr. Singh and his administration Hands Off High Demand!
