Dr. Singh announced in an email on September 19, 2025, that enrollment at the college was up 8%.
But when the time comes to negotiate a new contract with the faculty union, we expect that Dr. Chapman will show the Faculty Collective Bargaining Team a budget projection that predicts disaster in an attempt to explain why the college cannot possibly spend more money on faculty salaries. What we have noticed is that while faculty salaries stagnate, the salaries of administrators continue to climb. Here is some salary data drawn from the Washington State Fiscal Information website.
Name | 2020 Salary ($) | 2024 Salary ($) | 20-24 Delta ($) |
Dr. Amit Singh | 301,900 | 341,300 | +39,400 |
Dr. Kim Chapman | 122,400 | 170,900 | +48,500 |
Full Time Faculty A | 78,000 | 91,800 | +13,800 |
Associate Faculty B | 62,700 | 68,800 | +6,100 |
Respect is a Living Wage!
It seems clear to us that there are funds available for generous pay raises for administration. Meanwhile, full-time faculty salaries at Edmonds College have not kept up with the skyrocketing cost of living and our associate faculty are paid 65% of the full-time faculty rate to teach the same class, which is much lower than other colleges in our area.
Hands Off High Demand!
The Workforce Education Investment Act (HB 2158) established state-funded salary enhancements for faculty “including but not limited to nursing educators, other health-related professions, information technology, computer science, and trades, including welding.” In July 2025, the college administration unilaterally decided not to pay Nursing faculty these salary enhancements and instead keep that money from the state. They also signaled that they would not pay high-demand salary enhancements for other eligible faculty in the future. You can learn more about this issue and about how the union has fought back at these links, but it is clear that the language in our collective bargaining agreement needs to be strengthened to prevent our college administration from withholding these state-allocated high-demand salary enhancements.
What We Want
- Pay raises for faculty! Increase full-time faculty salaries and increase the percentage of associate faculty pay to 85% of full-time faculty pay.
- Hands Off High Demand! Pay the state-funded salary enhancement for all eligible faculty and strengthen the contract to ensure that the college administration cannot withhold it.
