ASEC REPORT FOR BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING ON JUNE 16TH 2026
Good afternoon to the Board of Trustees, the Presidential Leadership Team, and the rest of the campus community.
Below is the Student Government report:
Recent Student Incident
As the Executive Officer of Administration and as a representative of our student body, I feel it is important to address the recent incident in which a student was detained by federal immigration authorities on our campus. I recognize that the college was limited in its ability to intervene, as any action perceived as obstructing federal operations could have placed the institution at legal risk. I also understand the need for the college to gather verified information before issuing a public statement. However, this event has had a significant impact on our community, particularly given that a substantial portion of our students are non‑citizens who may experience heightened fear or uncertainty in moments like this. I respectfully urge the college to prioritize more timely communication should a similar situation arise in the future, as prompt and transparent updates are essential to ensuring that students—especially those who may feel particularly vulnerable—can make informed decisions for their safety and peace of mind. By doing this I believe the college can continue to maintain trust as supporting overall student well‑being is fundamental to sustaining a healthy and supportive campus community.
Student Government Completion
Over the past month, Student Government has been focused on concluding our work as our tenure comes to an end. We finalized the selection committee for next year’s Executive Board and submitted three nominees for the Student Trustee position to the Governor. All committee work has been completed, and we have prepared detailed transition reports to ensure the incoming Executive Board has the information and context needed to begin their roles effectively. Earlier in September, I reported on several goals established for the year, and I am pleased to highlight key accomplishments that have been completed, including engaging with student parents and adult learners to better understand their needs, strengthening campus partnerships, and improving overall awareness of Student Government across the college community.
This year, Student Government has paired innovation with advocacy by launching several new initiatives—including the Triton Field Frenzy, International Women’s Day celebration, the Adult Learners Committee, and the Student Government Feedback Form—to create new avenues for engagement and strengthen how we gather and respond to student needs. These efforts reflect our commitment to building community, elevating diverse voices, and ensuring that our advocacy remains grounded in real student experiences.
Thank you so much for your time and continued support of student success at Edmonds College. Your dedication as Trustees has made a meaningful difference in the lives of students, and we are truly grateful for the ways you continue to advocate for student well‑being and ensure that our voices are heard and valued.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for the Student Government team, whose tireless work and collaboration have been essential to a successful and impactful year. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside such a committed group of student leaders, whose dedication to our campus community has been both inspiring and instrumental to our collective accomplishments
